An exhibition built around the works of Claude Gazier is currently on view at the Saline Royale of Arc-et-Senans.
L’anamorphose monumentale au sol PlayTime, la Robe blanche de Marilyn et Fenêtre sur cour y sont présentées aux côtés des peintures. Dom Juan rejoint la collection de la Saline royale.

From cinema to painting
The aim of this work is to create pieces that are true developments of their source, widening the contemporary imagination. A threefold transformation — of frame, colour and material — carries out that transposition.
Drawing on the mural techniques of fresco, he leaves canvas behind for masonry surfaces on panel, covered with a pigment-based paint. Matte, dense or grainy, these soften contours and return the light, which seems to come from within them, with no reflection.

Claude Gazier peint le cinéma jusqu’au dérèglement complet de tous les sens.
Il entre dans l’écran pour éclairer les scènes de son imagination.
Il ne s’agit pas de reproduire tel ou tel plan mais de le réinventer
par des couleurs qui n’appartiennent qu’à lui.
L’œuvre se libère de l’histoire du cinéma et le cinéma se réinvente.
Claude Gazier nous offre d’y découvrir les forces secrètes qui l’animent.
Les films qu’il peint n’existent pas ou, plus exactement, n’existent que
par la peinture.

Biography
Born in 1952, lives and works in Lyon
A student in Paris, raised close to the Louvre, he drew and painted from childhood, then explored the techniques of representation and construction during his architecture studies at the ENSBA.
In 1980, discovering the painting of Edward Hopper was a revelation, and the urge to paint about cinema took shape.
